About
One trade, taken about as seriously as a trade can be taken.
Heritage Tiling Services is a family-run tiling firm in Ascot, Berkshire, run by Tom. Not a multi-trade outfit — specialists in the tiling field, which is a deliberately narrow thing to be and the reason the finish looks the way it does.

Tiling is the last trade into a room and the only one anybody looks at once the job is finished. Every other decision made in that room ends up expressed as a grout line. If the floor was not levelled, the tiles say so. If the wall bows, the large format bridges the hollow and every joint along that run tells you about it. If nobody worked out where the cuts would land, there will be a full tile on one side of the window and a sliver of one on the other, and you will see it every morning for fifteen years.
That is an uncomfortable position for a trade that gets treated as an afterthought — which is exactly why it is the only thing on this van. We are proud to have one trade which has been mastered to the highest standard we can hold ourselves to, and we are still reading up on the materials and formats arriving every year, because the trade keeps changing underneath everybody.
Being family-run is not a decorative detail either. It means a personalised service in the literal sense: the person who prices the job is the person who sets it out and the person who cuts the awkward piece behind the cistern on the last afternoon. Nothing is handed to a subcontractor who never saw the room, and nothing gets hurried along to clear a diary.
The work covers walls, floors and mosaics in natural stone, porcelain, ceramic and marble; wet rooms, where the falls and the tanking matter more than the tile does; swimming pools, which are their own discipline; and the design side — working out the format, the bond, the grout and the edge details for the room in front of us. We also have an in-house heritage interior design specialist who has been working with property since 2003 and has visited more than four thousand properties in that time, for the jobs where the tiling is part of a larger scheme.
Most of the work is close to home: Ascot, Windsor and Virginia Water, with recent projects over towards Winkfield and Bracknell. A lot of the housing round here has its own habits — period halls that want a geometric floor set out from a border, 1930s bathrooms carved out of a back bedroom, extensions with a floor build-up nobody thought about. None of it is a problem so long as somebody looks properly before quoting, which is why we always come and look.
How we work
Three things we hold to.
One trade, taken seriously
We do tiling and nothing else, and we keep reading up on the materials and formats arriving every year — large-format porcelain slabs, thin-bed stone, microcement-backed mosaics. A trade you practise every day is a trade where the awkward detail stops being a problem and starts being the interesting part of the job.
Every detail agreed before the first tile is fixed
Where the pattern centres, how the edges are finished, where the cuts land, how the niche lines through with the courses around it. These get decided with you and settled on paper, not improvised on the wall at four o'clock on a Thursday.
A price you know before we start
We come and look at the room, then price it properly — so you know exactly what to expect and exactly what it is going to cost. If something can genuinely only be priced once the floor comes up, we say that at the start rather than discovering it halfway through.
Where we work
Ascot, Windsor, Virginia Water and the surrounding areas.
Ascot is home, so most weeks are spent inside a fairly tight radius — Ascot, Windsor and Virginia Water, with recent jobs over towards Winkfield and Bracknell. If you are just outside that, ring and ask rather than assume; for the right job the van travels.

Thinking about the tiling?
Ring or text the number below, or email a couple of photographs of the room and rough measurements. We come and look before we price it — that is the only way the number stays the same at the end.
We're on the tools most of the day — a text or a voicemail is never ignored, and photographs of the room get you a useful answer fastest.
